Today, we’re spotlighting our mechanical engineer, Michael Kwan!

Michael’s aspiration to become an engineer started when he watched his father complete engineering tasks as a child. As he got older, he built Lego sets and became infatuated with the design process. He eventually studied mechanical engineering at the University of California, Irvine, and graduated in March 2023. We onboarded Michael on the Fit-Line team just six months later.

“I found Fit-Line and saw that they needed an entry-level mechanical engineer and that the company was growing and had the opportunity for growth within,” Michael said. “I applied, and here I am now, working with the engineering team.”

Michael’s curiosity about injection molding contributed to him joining our team. This manufacturing process uses high pressure to force melted plastic into a mold, then cools and solidifies it to create solid parts.

“It’s a lot to take in. Even today, I’m still learning new things about injection molding, but it’s nice.”

Michael’s critical functions on the Fit-Line team include creating new engineering drawings for tooling or tooling assemblies for new parts through SolidWorks. He also assists in conducting dimensional analysis of new products before they’re released for production.

“It’s the production engineering’s job to ensure everything for the part is within spec and that everything’s processed right. That way, when we send it out to customers, everything’s good [to go].”

Fit-Line provides an environment where learning and hard work enable talented people like Michael to realize their full potential. An educational atmosphere is one where our associates can move freely and understand the different parts of our production process.

“My favorite part [about Fit-Line] is leaving my desk and going outside to the production floor and seeing how everything is being done. Most bigger companies might not let you leave your desk and see the day-to-day that goes into everything. Going outside and seeing all the machines and how the products are being produced is cool.”

Fit-Line leadership is invested in ensuring that associates are continuously learning and that there’s a solid path for growth within the company. As Michael and our other Fit-Line team members grow, so do we.

“The work culture here is definitely nice. If I have a question about something, it always feels like I can ask them without an issue. I can always learn when I have questions on processes for those from other departments. That’s really nice about the company.”
